Nihon kendo kata, application, koryu (old schools) and the Kihon keiko-ho. The links between them and the skills that reinforce their understanding will be studied and analysed in depth.
Budden sensei studied Ono-ha Itto-ryu under Ono Torao sensei in Tokyo and has studied Mizoguchi-ha Itto-ryu under Ozawa Hiroshi for over a decade. He is the author of several books, including ‘Looking at A Far Mountain – A Study of Kendo Kata and Revisited’, ‘Devil’s Gloves and the One Cut: An Introduction to Ono-ha Itto-ryu’.
Through his long experience and perception of the subject matter, he has prepared the following schedule:
- An understanding of Kendo kata and essential riai.
- The essence of the Ono-ha Itto-ryu focusing on kiriotoshi.
- Mizoguchi-ha Itto-ryu and its techniques with specific diagonal body movements left and right ‘Sayu Tenka Deba-no Hidachi (or left and right secret ‘deba’ techniques)’ and the physics of cutting.
- Using original film footage, a review of the Teikoku kendo kata and its relationship to the Nihon kendo kata.
- The Bokuto kihon shinai waza interpreted as sword techniques.
Attendees will learn the basic handling of bokuto through practical application.
