Kendo Bu – BKA Insurance Update 2

In my previous note I introduced an element of confusion into the association’s position regarding training on-line and I apologise for this.

As you are aware the BKA’s insurance policy covers registered dojos and their members to participate in the arts of Kendo, Iaido, and Jodo. Where teaching takes place the BKA expects that a registered and qualified coach leads the activity and adheres to the association’s and insurer’s policies, guidelines and codes of practice.

Events and activities outside of these contexts that are not directly organised by the association as a whole or its Bu do not automatically qualify for cover.

In the case of such activities or events the organisers must apply to have their activity recognised by the appropriate Bu so that it can be carried out under the auspices of the association.

The Association has decided not to extend insurance cover to on-line teaching activity at this time as it is impossible to monitor or evaluate who is taking part and or the conditions in which the training activities are being carried out. I hope this now clarifies the situation.
