“Open” Weekend Nov 25/26 2017
The BKA wishes to invite as wide a participation as possible to the British Open that will be on Sunday 26th November 2017.
Therefore the weekend will consist of 4 activities, 3 of which will be open to any guests.
Saturday 25th – The Sir Frank Bowden Memorial Taikai for teams from UK BKA dojo
Saturday 25th – Evening jigeiko with all guests for Sunday Taikai
Sunday 26th – Morning, Junior Taikai (open to those between 14 and 18 on day of competition)
Sunday 26th – Followed by British Open Taikai (open to all 18+ on the day of competition)
The Sir Frank Bowden Memorial Taikai 25th November 2017
The Sir Frank Bowden Memorial Taikai will consist of teams of 5 players aged 18 years of age and above, a minimum of 3 persons being registered to the same Dojo or club within the British Kendo Association. To cater for smaller clubs who may not have sufficient registered members to take part, the other two team members can be either BKA dojo members or any other BKA members. Each club will be allowed to enter 2 teams, more than 2 teams will only be allowed if there is sufficient places.
Pool and knock out systems will be decided by the Kendo Bu and IKF/EKF rules will apply. However, the use of Tsuki will not be permitted in mixed male and female matches except a match involving a Jodan or Nito player. Qualifying age is taken from the 1st January of the year of competition. All participants must be fully paid up members of the BKA prior to the date of the Taikai and may be required to supply their BKA membership number at registration.
Team entry fee will be £30 per team and should be booked and paid by a team representative through the BKA online booking system by going through your account. The person who pays will be deemed as Captain but the rest of the team don’t have to be confirmed until the day. People can only be members of one team on the day (because you cannot fight yourself)

British Open Taikai on 26th November 2017
British Open Taikai is open to any kendoka age 18 or over (on the day of the taikai), male or female from any EKF/IKF affiliated organisation. There will be a separate Junior Taikai that will be held before the Open.
Individual entry fee is £10
Junior Taikai start at 10.00
Followed by Open Taikai with target finish by 17.00
The events will take place at Q3 Academy – book before 20th November
