Kendo Seminar with Yukuo Iwao sensei 8th Dan Kyoshi

Yukuo Iwao sensei worked as a detective at Kanagawa Police for 37 years while teaching kendo to children (6 to 15 years old) at his own dojo Seidokan. After retirement from Kanagawa Police 15 years ago, he started a class for younger children (5 years old and below) together with strengthening the ladies kendo at his dojo, mainly through a ‘mothers’ group’ whose children had graduated from Seidokan resulting in the mothers themselves starting kendo.

He had previously visited the UK and taught juniors and adults back in 2010 during Seidokan’s 30th Anniversary ‘Celebration Tour’ of London and Paris.

In 2011, he was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure by the Emperor for his service as a detective, equivalent to an OBE in the UK. At the same time he was received many other awards for his tireless contribution towards young people’s education and working in the local community teaching kendo.

In an interview with Kobayashi sensei the president of Kanagawa Prefecture Kendo Federation he says ‘.. As a detective, we would wait for the suspects in rainy and windy days regardless of how bad the weather conditions were, often for a long time and I would never give up. Perhaps this has also helped my kendo throughout my life’

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from an amazing teacher whom once you meet you will never forget.
